Does my sister have any homestead rights in Maryland?

My sister has been living in and paying the mortgage on a home in MD with her husband for about ten years now. Her Mother in law owned the home on paper. My brother in law left my sister and their three kids and now him and his mother are attempting to kick my sister and their three kids out on the street. does she have any legal right to stay in the home?
