Should I keep trying to get this job?

Ok, I was offered a job at a very fine jewelry store a couple of weeks ago. I was beaming! I turned the app in the next day. Had a good interview with the manager a couple days after that, then the following week an interview with the district. I was very determined to get the job. I sacrificed my evening off at work and switched with someone so I'd have plenty of time for the interview with the district. I came into the store a couple days after turning the app in to check on it and the manager interviewed me right on the spot. A few days ago they called my store asking for my boss so they could do references she wasn't there so I told them she was ok with them calling her cell. She's the kind of person who would tell me they called her and she hasn't said anything about it. The assistant, who offered me the job, told me to keep coming in and "bugging" the manager. That doesn't seem right to me. They said they need people really bad. I've been offered the job by the assistant, interviewed twice, they know me really well there! If I was getting the job wouldn't it have happened by now? Why do I need to "bug" the manager? That seems tacky to me.
