What problem is this with the dog's ear. (Photo)?

Looks like a maggot. Probably a wound that flies got too and then the maggots hatched out. Believe it or not maggots are actually helpful because they eat the dead tissue on the wound. Once you get the maggots off the wound heals quicker. Ick.
