I own a house in FL but might get a job in DC - can I keep my homestead exemption on FL home?

I know I will need to pay payroll taxes for VA or DC, depending where I temporarily live but I want to make sure I can keep the homestead exemption on my Florida home. It will be our permanent residence whether its rented or not. Any other benefits to keeping FL residence? Any thoughts?
