HOW TO RECOVER LOST/STOLEN JEWELRY?

I recently lost a piece of jewelry and whether it was stolen or someone picked it up, I am curious to know if someone had pawned it at a Jewelry Store rather than a pawn shop, is the jewelry store required to send documentation to local police of their daily purchases? also does a jewelry store that buys second hand jewelry constitute as a "pawn shop"??
